It's Tick Bite Prevention Week!
Ticks are small parasites that feed on the blood of animals - once they've latched on to your pet they can grow to the size of a pea over a couple of days. If you've ever seem something that looks like a smooth grey wart, it was probably a tick!
Tick bits are most common in Spring & Autumn and they get onto cats and dogs by climbing up blades of grass and latching onto them as the animals brush past. They're most common in grassy fields, woodland and moorland, or anywhere that is shared with wildlife, like deer, sheep, or hedgehogs.
Tick bits can make pets very poorly, so it's important to try to prevent them and remove them appropriately if you find one on your pet. Make sure you check your pet daily, and if you find a tick remove it as soon as possible - it's important to remove the whole tick - ideally twisting the tick out using a special tick-removing tool.
